Why should I choose a private speech therapist? Often, a child might not qualify for school- or community-based therapy even when a disorder is present, or their family might prefer more individualized therapy than is offered at their child's school. Adults may not have the time to drive to hospital- or clinic-based therapy setting and prefer the convenience of home-based therapy or teletherapy.
How long is a typical therapy session? Sessions are 30-45 minutes long, depending on the client's needs and attention span. We always take time to discuss the session and homework with the client or parents (for home sessions), or to send parents a detailed note including the activities we did and how to complete the homework (for daycare sessions).
Will my insurance cover private speech therapy? There are almost as many insurance plans as there are people who use them, which is why we take the time to personally verify your insurance benefits before beginning therapy. Most insurance plans cover some variation of therapy, depending on the client's diagnosis. Our in-home therapy and teletherapy sessions are usually covered the same as therapy provided in a clinic or hospital setting. Our session rates are the same as other individual providers in the area, and less expensive than therapy in a hospital setting.
Which insurance plans do you accept? We accept all
Aetna
Cigna
Highmark (BCBS) plans
We do NOT accept any Medicaid/Medical Assistance plans (Gateway, Aetna Better Health, etc) or UPMC plans. If you have Medical Assistance as a secondary insurance, you will not be able to use those benefits. Therapy will be billed to your commercial insurance only. This is due to the extremely difficult provider paperwork process and low reimbursement rate ($22.70 for an hour-long speech therapy, and has been that rate for the past 20 years.

Even if your insurance is not accepted, you can submit your invoice to your insurance for possible reimbursement through out of network benefits. It is each client's responsibility to confirm eligibility for speech services with their insurance provider prior to starting therapy. As with all services that are billed to insurance, the client is responsible for any charges that the insurance does not cover. I provide complimentary benefits confirmation, but your insurance company is the final word on coverage. Regardless of payment method or insurance coverage, clients are provided with a detailed invoice for each session that includes all information necessary to submit to insurance for reimbursement
